Scurvy is the result of a lack of Vitamin C in the diet. Without Vitamin C:
- Collagen cannot be synthesized which leads to: bleeding, gum deterioration, impaired wound healing, and bone lesions.
- Carnitine cannot be synthesized which leads to: fatigue and muscle weakness.
- Norepinephrine cannot be synthesized which leads to: general malaise.
Scurvy is initially slow to progress and symptoms can take up to two months to manifest. Fortunately, the disease is completely reversible with administration of high levels of Vitamin C.
